OSCARS 2016: HIGHLIGHTS
In a year surrounded by controversy with the hashtag #oscarsSowhite and Leonardo DiCaprio up for an Oscar for an agonising FIFTH TIME in his career, let's look back and the night that was.
Spotlight won Best Picture proving many doubters wrong and showing the ensemble cast on this shocking true story really is a rightful crown wearer for the film of the year.
Sly Stallone was the biggest snub of the night with Mark Rylance taking the Best Supporting Actor award from old Rocky himself. "He could have been a contender".... We thought he was!
That shocking song by Sam Smith in Spectre won best original song... What!!!! And he is white, I call fix!!!!!
Carol didn't win anything. Justice restored!!! Whoop whoop - most overrated film EVER!
Another big suprise was Alicia Vikander winning Best Supporting Actress for The Danish Girl having been nominated for the same category at the BAFTAs but for her role in Ex Machina. All at the cost of Kate Winslet who I was sure would get this award from her amazing portrayal in Steve Jobs.
Leo finally won! Yes, the curse has finally been broken and arguably not with the best performance of his career however justice has finally been done for one of this generation's greatest actors. He had previously missed out with What's Eating Gilbert Grape? (1993), The Aviator (2005), Blood Diamond (2007), The Wolf of Wall Street (2014) and The Revenant (2016).
Chris Rock hosted and inevitably had some absolute comedy gold for the audiences around the world. The actor had a string of stinging put-downs Hollywood, however, the best line is, without a doubt, his commentary on Jada Pinkett-Smith's now famous boycott of the awards ceremony.
Alejandro G. Innaritu won back to back Best Director awards which hadn't been done for 65 years, with The Revenant and Birdman last year. This has only been done twice before since the Oscars began!
One man got his hat-trick last night! No, not a sordid celeb-filled gossip column moment folks; Best Cinematography went to The Revenant whose Cinematographer is Emmanuel Lubezki. He was the cinematographer on 2013's Gravity and 2014's Birdman. It's just stats for you people! I'm here all night.
Most wins on the night went to Mad Max: Fury Road with a greedy six statue haul!!!
